The EU Single-Use Plastic (SUP) Directive, which mandates that single-use beverage containers made with plastic will only be allowed on the market if their caps and lids remain attached, will come into force in July 2024. The directive is an integral part of the EU's wider approach announced in their Plastics Strategy and an important element of the EU Circular Economy Action Plan.
Industry insiders believe that in 2024, all plastic bottles that meet the requirements in Europe will use tethered caps, and the number will be very large and the market space is broad.
More and more European manufacturers of plastic beverage containers are accelerating technological innovation to meet this opportunity and challenge, designing and manufacturing more product portfolios of tethered cap, including some innovative designs.
In 2021, Jeepine began the deployment of our tethered caps. New cap design solutions have emerged to address the challenges posed by the shift from traditional caps to one-piece caps.
